Job Description
The Chair of the Nursing is a role model who provides academic, administrative and fiscal leadership to faculty, staff and students for the CTU North Kansas City campus.
• Financial, Marketing, Curriculum Planning Strategy
• Organizing Management role, Program Effectiveness, Change management
• Directing Team building, Leadership, Public relations, Marketing reports
• Program evaluation, Accreditation, Quality improvement, Faculty development, Human Resource management
• Provides visionary leadership to the faculty for the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum for the CTU North Kansas City nursing programs
• Creates an environment conducive to teaching and learning in all delivery modes, including on-ground, hybrid and 100% online
• Contributes to program relationship with CTU Nursing Programs on all campuses
• Networks with national, professional nursing and health science organizations, as well as the Kansas City community, to promote the maintain visibility for CTU and to influence nursing and health science education nationally and internationally
• Provides coordination of effort and communication to nursing faculty, University Dean of Health Sciences, Department Chairs, President and Director of Education of the North Kansas City campus, VCA for CTUO, Advisory Boards, state bodies, and accrediting agencies
• Represents CTU North Kansas City nursing in managing internal/external affairs and working in an advisory capacity with the CTU administrative team on special projects
• Participates in budget preparation, as well as human, fiscal, physical resource management as determined by CTU and CEC administrative guidelines
• Promotes faculty development and conducts performance appraisals by:
• Recruitment, interviewing and hiring qualified faculty within the program
• Participates in the planning and implementation of orientation, ongoing education and mentoring for faculty
• Conducts ongoing performance appraisals, conferencing, class and online visitation and feedback to faculty
• Provides ongoing documentation for faculty related to future promotion, renewal of contracts
• Provides opportunity for attendance at professional enrichment conferences or research opportunities
• Establishes/maintains an Advisory Board for the purpose of providing up-to-date feedback on needed changes or continued support for specific components of CTU North Kansas City nursing.
• Serves as a role model in professionalism, interpersonal relationships, scholarly activities, and exemplary teaching
• Provides correspondence related to the program and facilitates the maintenance of complete records on faculty, staff, students, and course syllabi
• Attends to correspondence (such as changes in curriculum or administrative staff) to agencies including, but not limited to, appropriate national nursing program accreditation bodies and the Missouri Board of Nursing
• Conducts regular nursing faculty and committee meetings with agenda and minutes documented
• Assigns faculty and appropriate staff workload to meet the needs of the University, students and individual faculty
• Follows the Chain of Command in resolving student or faculty disputes
• Assures that accreditation and institutional standards are met or exceeded
• Serves as a role model for a positive, professional relationship with CTU administrators, faculty, staff, colleagues, students and the public
• Establishes and coordinates the use of clinical facilities for the CTU North Kansas City campus
• Assigns administrative duties to nursing faculty as necessary based on qualifications and experience
• Supervises administrative assistant and assigns duties based on nursing program needs
• Teaches in the CTU nursing programs as appropriate
Required Experience
• A baccalaureate degree in nursing is required, masters preferred
• Must have graduated from a nursing program with a clinical education component (either at the baccalaureate or master’s level or both.)
• Must hold a current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of fulltime or equivalent clinical experience as a registered nurse
• Must have two years of fulltime or equivalent experience in teaching in an approved nursing education program at or above the level of the nursing education program
• Must show evidence of experience in nursing curriculum development
• Must have a commitment to lifelong learning
• Must show evidence of maintaining an active role in the nursing profession
